-Specific points in a photo where the focus is clearer.
-Your camera will automatically focus on the center or you can choose your own focus point(s)
-this can be done using settings
-your camera should come with a manual
FOCUS MODES
-single shot mode
-focus lock
-continuous AF
METERING MODES
-multi segment: give brighter or darker background
-centre-weighted: most of the reading is taken from the center of the photo, not good for dark or light areas
-spot: takes reading from a tiny spot on the photo, good for focusing on one specific area of a photo
EXPOSURE LOCK
-pics taken in dark or light backgrounds can turn out not so good. Use spot metering and exposure lock to control how light or dark the picture will turn out
COLOUR SETTINGS
-normal: all colors are just average and even, no one color stands out or is brighter than the others
-sharpness: won't make a blurry picture appear sharper, but it will make a focused picture appear sharper
-vivid: ups the contrast and saturation levels on a photo and make colors appear brighter and stand out
-mono: black and white
-sepia: takes away color from a picture all together, you can't get the color back later
WHITE BALANCE
-in different lightings, an object may appear to be a different color. Play with the white balance to alter the colors of different objects in pictures
HISTOGRAM
-highlight certain areas of a picture if they're over-contrasted or over-exposed
FLASH
-use flash to put light in objects in the dark
-illiminates or creates shadows depending on the angle you take the photo
MULTIPLE EXPOSURES
-use more than one exposure in a photo to make different effects work together to bring out different aspects of a photo
MIRROR LOCK-UP
-place the camera on a tripod and press the shutter with a remote
SELF-TIMER
-set the timer and press shutter, then it'll take the pic (however long you set the time for) after you press it
